    Training-Analysis - Human Rights in Mauritania

    Coordination of a legal clinic within the Higher Institute for International Studies/University of Paris 2-Assas, aiming at the drafting and submission of a shadow report on the right of persons with disabilities in Mauritania, to be submitted to the United Nations Committee in charge of the rights of persons with disabilities (CRPD), examining the respect of Mauritania's international obligations related to that specific topic (March 2020, Geneva).

    Training - Prevention of torture in Mauritani

    Organisation and conduct of a training for the representatives of the penitentiary administration in Mauritania (Nouakchott, Rosso and prisons of the Northern part of the country) focusing on the implementation of the State commitments with regards to the prevention of torture and ill treatment, for more than 20 participants. This workshop was organised thanks to the support of the French Embassy in Mauritania, as well as the Mauritanian Ministry of Justice.


    In parallel, PRDH is supporting civil society organisations on the issue of collection of information and testimonies on torture and ill treatment, in particular during arrests (issue of excessive use of force) and the preliminary phase of the judicial investigation, in order to submit a shadow report on those aforementioned issues on the occasion of Mauritania's examination for the Universal Periodic Review scheduled by the United Nations on November 2020 in Geneva.

    Following an official request addressed to our NGO, PRDH is working on the curricula of a forthcoming training on the methodology of visits to places of detention for the incoming members of the National Commission for Human Rights in Mauritania.

    In the framework of the review of Mauritania by the United Nations Human Rights Committee (July 2019, session 126), PRDH, ECPM and the Mauritanian Association for Human Rights handed over a shadow report on the question of death penalty and the conditions of detention and treatment of death row prisoners, torture, and access to justice.     Mauritania: Torture Prevention and rights of migrants.

    Planète Réfugiés-Droits de l'Homme will develop in the course of 2019 training sessions on thematics dealing with fundamental rights (torture prevention, access to justice, rights of migrants detained, methodology) for representatives of the Mauritanian civil society organisations, in order to structure a constructive lobbying towards Mauritanian authorities on the subject.
